Both the Pronghorn women and men's basketball teams won their semifinal contests on Friday and both will play Casper College for the Region IX championship. The Pronghorn men crushed Miles Community College, 105-67, at Otero Junior College and the Pronghorn women surpassed McCook Community College, 96-68 for the South Campus.
The men had no trouble against the Pioneers and had their largest win against the team in the three contests they played against them in the regular season and playoffs. Kavell Bigby-Williams had a double-double by half time with 17 points and 10 rebounds; he finished with the team high of 25 points and 17 boards. It was also an impressive night for Derrick Farquharson. He had 24 points and sank five of his six three-point attempts.
Gillette College was up 58-28 at half time.
The guys shot 51.9 percent from the field and made 11 triples as a team.
The Pronghorn women started their contest with a 13-2 run over McCook Community College. That set the pace for Gillette College, as they led 45-28 at the half.
The Pronghorn women play Casper College at 6pm Saturday from the South Campus. Fans are encouraged to pack the house, but the game can also be seen at gcpronghorns.com. Casper College defeated Western Nebraska Community College to advance to the championship game.
