Washakie County Commissioners Meeting Recap

The Washakie County Commissioners were in regular session throughout the day on Tuesday, August 2 in the Commissioners room of the Courthouse. Worland Fire Chief and County Fire Warden Chris Kocher addressed the County Commissioners towards the end of the morning session mapping out what areas of the Ten Sleep Hatchery Fire through Ten Sleep Canyon burned. Fire Chief Kocher indicated that 301 people helped fight this blaze that began on Friday, July 22 and was 100% contained going into the week of July 31. Fire Chief Kocher reported that over 100 structures were threatened in this fire and none were lost. In other business, Fire Chief Kocher reported that they’ve been awarded a Fire Wise Grant in the amount of $22,500 which will help them with mitigation work and their fire protection plan adding that Big Horn County is also receiving this grant in the same amount. Fire Chief Kocher also mentioned that more people are calling in before or by the time they begin doing a controlled burn since burn restrictions were put in place. The County Commissioners thanked Fire Chief Kocher for all of the hard work that he along with all of the other entities put in at fighting the Ten Sleep Hatchery Fire.
