2016 Pepsi Wyoming State Barbecue Championship & Bluegrass Festival Recap

The 12TH Annual Pepsi Wyoming State Barbecue Championship and Bluegrass Festival brought in another large crowd to the Washakie County Fairgrounds this past Friday, August 19 and Saturday, August 20. 26 barbecue teams were very busy cooking in the two day competition. Many of the squads that took part were from state of Wyoming, while competitors from Colorado, Utah, Montana, Idaho, Arizona and South Dakota also participated. In addition, there was a lot of Bluegrass music. Performing this year on stage were Finnders & Youngberg, New South Fork Bluegrass and the Old Blue Band. Taking 1st for Best Chicken was the Burnin’ Bob’s Butts’N’Bones Team led by Bob Oldfield of Morrison, Colorado, picking up 1st for Best Sauce was the 12 Bar Blue’s Que Team led by Leslie Cooke out of Billings, earning 1st for the Best Mystery Meat was the You Qued Me All Night Long Team led by Matt Heath out of Gillette, Got Smoke Barbecue led by Will Wilson out of Salt Lake City, Utah was awarded 1st for Best Pork Ribs, the BS Barbecue Outlaws led by Bob Stanfiel out of Hill City, South Dakota took 1st for Best Pork, while the Smokin’ Hot Butts Barbecue Team led by Brett Osborne out of Casper were awarded 1st for Best Brisket, took home the Wyoming High Points Award and were named Overall Grand Champion. Receiving the Jim Blake Memorial Award this year went to the Red Arrow Barbecue team out of Worland led by Jerrad Scott. One person who was mentioned during the awards presentation was former Organizer Dale Wagner who passed away late May of this year.
