Hunter Peak Fire 73% Contained

The Hunter Peak Fire which is located 30 miles northwest of Cody on the Clarks Fork Ranger District of the Shoshone National Forest has burned 3572 acres and is now 73% contained since it was first reported on August 9. The fire was caused by lightning. As of Monday, August 29 the Shoshone National Forest still has temporary trail closures in the vicinity of the fire in place for North Crandall (Trail 609) and Squaw Creek (610). Beartooth Highway (US HWY 212) and Chief Joseph Scenic Highway (WY HWY 296) are both still open.
