Local Church Helps Community Stretch Food Bill

Written by on March 15, 2017

The Open Door Church located at 111 East 2nd Street in Gillette is having their monthly Bread of Life Food Pantry give a way this Saturday. This event is held each month on the third Saturday and usually means giving out over 500 boxes and bags of groceries to those in need. Anyone who is unemployed, under-employed, homeless, or just having a hard time stretching their grocery bill from pay check to pay check, should go to the Open Door Church, Saturday at 9:30 A.M.

The Open Door Church and its volunteers can give away these grocery items due to charitable money contributions from the community. If anyone would like to help with the food give a way or donate money to the food pantry, they may stop by the Church Saturday morning at 9:00 A.M. You may also send your monetary contribution to The Open Door Church Bread of Life Food Pantry, 111 East 2nd Street, Gillette, Wyoming 82716.

The Food Pantry was started in the Summer of 2013 when a need arose as the economy in Gillette began to falter. Being a downtown church, many people were coming in for food assistance. The Open Door Church began collecting from the congregation but needed more food sources. The church eventually became an agency of the Food Bank of the Rockies. As an agency of the Food Bank, The Open Door Church can purchase food for as low as nineteen cents per pound and are able to run this program for under $350 per month. Donators should know that all money will be used for food purchases only.
