Press Release – This week, U.S. Senators Mike Enzi and John Barrasso, and Representative Liz Cheney, all R-Wyo., congratulated Buffalo’s Peter John Camino on being appointed to serve on the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA)’s American Lamb Board. Camino is appointed to serve a three-year term.
“As a third-generation rancher, Peter John has been a tireless advocate and a respected leader for the sheep industry in Wyoming,” said Enzi. “With his extensive knowledge and experience in the industry, I am confident he will be a valuable asset to the board and USDA. I congratulate him on this prestigious national appointment and wish him well in his new position on the American Lamb Board.”

As a third-generation sheep producer, Peter John’s knowledge, dedication and experience will serve him well in this new role.”

Peter John Camino is a third-generation sheep producer and former president of the Wyoming Wool Growers Association. He’s also provided information and guidance to the University of Wyoming’s Sheep Program. Peter John has served on the Johnson County Fire District board, as a member of the Knights of Columbus, and has lent his experience for many years to the young sheep producers in the Johnson County 4-H.
The American Lamb Board is composed of 13 members, including six U.S. producers, three feeders, three first handlers, and one seedstock producer. The board is authorized by the Commodity Promotion, Research, and Information Act of 1996. Since 1966, Congress has authorized the establishment of 22 industry-funded research and promotion boards. They empower farmers and ranchers to leverage their own resources to develop new markets, strengthen existing markets, and conduct important research and promotion activities. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) provides oversight, paid for by industry assessments, which ensures fiscal accountability and program integrity for participating stakeholders.
