It seems like every other movie that comes out is a remake these days . . . but Hollywood has been recycling old ideas since the beginning.  Here are some movies you may not have known were remakes:
1.  "Scareface", 1983.  The original was done 50 years earlier, in 1932.
2.  "Three Men and a Baby", 1987.  It was a remake of a French movie called "Three Men and a Cradle", which came out two years earlier.
3.  "Scent of a Woman", 1992.  It was a remake of an Italian movie of the same name that came out in 1974.  Random Fact:  The guy who played Al Pacino's role also voiced Mufasa in the Italian version of "The Lion King".
4.  "Dinner for Schmucks", 2010.  It was a remake of a French movie called "Dinner of Fools", which came out in 1998.
5.  "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels", 1988.  It was a remake of a 1964 movie called "Bedtime Story", which starred Marlon Brando and David Niven.
6.  "12 Monkeys", 1995.  It was a remake of a French short called "La Jetée", a.k.a. "The Jetty".  It's only 28 minutes long, and is always shown in film school.
7.  "True Lies", 1994.  It was a remake of a French movie called "La Totale!", which came out three years earlier.
8.  "Jungle 2 Jungle", 1997.  It was a remake of a French movie called "An Indian in the City", which came out three years earlier.
9.  "The Departed", 2006.  It was a remake of a Hong Kong movie called "Infernal Affairs", which came out in 2002.
10.  "Down and Out in Beverly Hills", 1986.  It was a remake of a French movie that came out in 1932 called "Boudu Saved from Drowning".  Random Fact:  The remake was Disney's first R-rated movie.
11.  "A Fistful of Dollars", 1964.  It's a remake of a Japanese movie called "Yojimbo" that came out three years earlier.  It's an unofficial remake, because the filmmakers didn't get the rights to do it, and were sued over it.
12.  "The Maltese Falcon", 1941.  The original came out three years earlier.
13.  "Angels in the Outfield", 1994.  The original came out in 1951, and was set around the Pittsburgh Pirates.  The Angels weren't an MLB team until 1961.
14.  "EDtv", 1999.  It was a remake of a Canadian comedy called "Louis 19, King of the Airwaves", which came out five years earlier.
15.  "Major Payne", 1995.  The original was a 1955 movie, called "The Private War of Major Benson", which starredCharlton Heston.
16.  "The Toy", 1982.  It was a remake of a French movie of the same name, which came out in 1976.
17.  "Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey", 1993.  The original, "The Incredible Journey", came out in 1963.
