Gillette Girls Claim 2nd Straight XC State Title

The Gillette High School Girls’ Cross Country team is Class 4A State Champions, for the second year in a row, as the Camels had three runners finish in the top three, and five in the top 10, Saturday at the State meet in Sheridan.

Sophomore Tabitha Simmons was the first overall finisher, by almost 14 seconds; her time was 19:15.06, with freshman Sydney Wendt taking second and senior Quinn DiStafano placing third.

Senior Jessi Jeffries placed sixth, overall, for the Camels, and senior Abby Phillips finished eighth.

Grace Wiley and Karley Borchers, both Camel freshmen, placed 29th and 30th respectively.

The Gillette Boys tied for third, with Kelley Walsh, led by senior Derek Wagner, who placed eleventh, and senior Harrison Simmons, who took thirteenth.

Senior Justin Mehrer finished 21st, for the Camels; junior James Koch took 28th.

In Class 2A, the Moorcroft and Wright boys teams placed sixth and seventh, respectively; while the Panther girls took fifth, and the Moorcroft girls finished seventh.
