Gillette Girls Swimmers Claim State Title

The Gillette Girls Swim Team is Class 4A State Champions, after the Camels totaled 280 points, at the State Swim meet, over the weekend in Gillette.

Sheridan placed second with 187; Cheyenne Central was third at 140.

The Camels got a first-place finish in the 500 yard freestyle from sophomore Katie Carsrud.  Sophomore Annie Waldum placed first in the 100 yard breaststroke.

The 400 yard freestyle relay team of Sunshine Roberts, Emmalee Carsrud, Sage Riss and Rylie Pilon also took first.

Gillette’s 200 yard medley relay team of Taylor Schiefelbein, Waldum, Emily Jewell, and Riss were second place finishers, as were Waldum in the 200 yard Individual Medley; Pilon in the 50 yard Freestyle; and the 200 yard freestyle relay team of Roberts, Jewell, Waldum and Pilon.

Third place finishers, for the Camels included Jill Mills, in both the 200 and 500 yard freestyle; and Pilon in the 100 yard freestyle.

This is the eighth State Title, for the Gillette Girls swimmers, in the past nine years.
