High 2014 Traffic Fatality Number Rises Again After Casper Couple Killed

Press Release - Monday evening, June 30th, around 6 pm a Casper couple was killed in a two vehicle crash on I-25 about three (3) miles north of Casper.  The Wyoming Highway Patrol reports that 83 year old Duane Hartman and 68 year old Linda Hartman both died at the scene of the crash on south bound I-25.  Investigating trooper Marshall Wyatt states  Duane Hartman, the driver of a 2003 Mitsubishi Outlander, was entering onto south bound I-25 at mile post 191 and for unknown reasons turned left across both lanes of travel on the interstate. A south bound commercial truck driven by 59 year old David Dobbin of Box Elder, SD collided with the driver’s side of the Hartman vehicle in the left hand lane.  Troopers report the interstate was closed about 4.5 hours while they investigated the incident.  All occupants of both vehicles were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
These two fatalities represent numbers 64 and 65 for Wyoming through the end of June 2014.  At the same time last year the fatality total was 46 in Wyoming.  Wyoming’s 2013 fatal numbers were the lowest the state had seen since 1945.  This year’s fatal numbers at the midyear mark are only slightly above the past 10 year average.  The WHP reminds you to please buckle up, slow down, pay attention and never drink and drive!
