Hillary’s Great Society
May 30, 2007 • Filed in National
If any of you thought, even for a moment, that
Hillary had changed her position on the social order
after her brief fling with trying to appear to be a
centrist, you can put that notion aside. Speaking at
the Manchester, New Hampshire School of Technology,
Comrade Hillary outlined her vision of a socialist
future. She said it’s time to replace an
“on your own” society with one based on
shared prosperity.
If this isn’t Karl Marx philosophy, I don’t know what is. It’s rooted in class warfare, something both Hillary and Marx exploit for their own gain. And you thought communism was dead? No, folks, it’s running for president of the United States next year. Let’s do a little background on Hillary to begin with. When she graduated from the Yale Law School, she insisted—let me repeated that word “insisted”—that she do her internship at this law firm in Oakland, California.
The law firm was one who defended the Black Panthers during their heyday. But, even more importantly, they were the official law firm of the Communist party of the United States. And while time may change some things, it hasn’t changed her philosophy. Last year, while screeching in front of a group of business executives, she said something that the liberal media didn’t report on.
You’re not surprised, are you? She threatened these business leaders with higher taxes which she said was “for the common good.” It’s nothing more than a Marxian “re-distribute the wealth” idea, to penalize those who’ve made money and achieved, and give it to the ones who haven’t achieved or don’t even want to. This woman is offering nothing more than the destruction of the American economic system in exchange for the votes of bums and deadbeats who want a free ride courtesy of those who worked for whatever rewards they got from their work.
She told these students, “I believe in opportunity for all and special privileges for none. ” What special privileges? Financial success isn’t handed to people on a silver platter. They have to work for it. And if more and more people don’t work for it and wait, sitting on their lazy butts for a handout, we’re on the fast track to destruction. Can anybody name me a successful socialist country?
No, you can’t because there isn’t one. Look at Russia or Cuba or North Korea. Even China didn’t start to succeed until it began, sort of, a market economy. What Hillary proposes is not only wrong, to think you’ll believe her should be an insult to your intelligence.

The School Grading System
May 29, 2007 • Filed in Gillette
The pursuit of excellence is no more. The Campbell
County School Board brought that to an ignominious
end last week when they lowered the minimum grade for
passing from 70 to 60. And these are people who
oversee the education process in Campbell County?
I’m sorry to report this isn’t some kind
of collective nightmare. It’s actually
happening. And why is it happening?
It’s happening because a lot of other counties in Wyoming have done the same thing. Is this a sign that the No Child Gets Ahead program isn’t working so they have to cook the books to make it look like students are passing so they can self-righteously pat themselves on the back and say what a wonderful job public education is doing? That’s very much a possibility.
But, when you were a child and you wanted to do something your parents knew wasn’t right and you said “Well, everybody else is doing it”, didn’t they ever say to you “if everybody else was jumping off tall buildings would you do it?” About the lamest reason I’ve ever heard is that “we want to level the playing field. ” Excuse me for being such an old fuddy-duddy but isn’t school supposed to be something that challenges kids to read and achieve?
Public education today is a fraud, perpetrated by educrats who have no vision or, Lord knows, no honesty. If kids in Campbell County know they have to make a 70 to pass, then they’ll work harder. If they know all they have to do is score a 60, they’ll try that much less. So what if other counties in Wyoming have compromised and sold out their standards? Does that mean we want to do it too?
I don’t think so, at least the parents who’ve called the show in the morning don’t. I said public education is a fraud and it’s because they’re going in completely the opposite direction from what they should. They’re rewarding failure. And these kids are going to wonder when they get out in the real world why their passing grades in school aren’t helping them on the job. As the world gets more technical and requires greater learning, what have we done? We’ve LOWERED the standards to pass.
Folks, these are your children who’ve been victimized by this scam. And another question: Why is the state sitting still for this body blow to education? Does that make you wonder just what’s going on? It should. And you should remember these con artists in November of next year.

Hypocrisy’s Name
May 23, 2007 • Filed in National
Folks, try and contain your excitement when I tell
you that Al Gore has a new book out. It’s
called An Assault on Reason. That’s an
interesting title for a book by Al Gore because
he’s been doing that for years, assaulting our
sense of reason and insulting our intelligence. And
he’s doing it again. In the book, he attacks
the Bush administration, who else, for its policy on
Iraq.
Well, whether you agree with the Bush position on Iraq or not is beside the point. The point is that Al attacks the administration viciously for positions he himself held and publicly stated just a few years ago when he was Slick Willie’s vice-perpetrator. When he and the Slickster were disgracing the executive branch of the U S Government, he raved on and on about how Saddam Insane had all these weapons of mass destruction and needed to be removed from power.
And when he was removed from power, not by the Clinton Keystone Kops and hung like an old west horse thief, suddenly it was the wrong thing to do. Al, do you really think America’s memory is that short? Don’t you find it interesting that the people in the Clinton years who were all for fighting Iraq are the ones who are now leading the war protestors? The bottom line is it’s not the war, it’s who’s conducting it. It’s all politics because liberals have no sense of right or wrong, only what’s politically expedient.
Thus, we have another tome from Mr. Global Warming. By the way, I wonder how many carbon dioxide breathing trees gave their lives so that this assault on reason could be published. On the hypocrite scale, Al’s a 10 easily. And as long as we’re pointing out hypocrisy, this story is beyond belief. It’s about the $400 haircut man, pretty boy John Edwards. [MUSIC: “I FEEL PRETTY”]
After making millions driving up the cost of medical insurance as an ambulance chasing lawyer, Edwards added to his fortune by taking a job with a hedge fund to, quote, “learn about poverty. ” Now, he was paid $55 thousand by the taxpayer supported University of California at Davis to make a speech on how poverty is a moral wrong and how we need government programs to redistribute wealth to those who don’t have it. Of course, you have to wonder how much of his money he’s volunteered to give away but I’d bet it’s not the first dime.
It ought to be that if you look up the word “hypocrisy” in the dictionary it ought to say, “see liberal Democrat”.

Gasoline Prices
May 22, 2007 • Filed in National
The cost at the pump just keeps going up. And there
are a number of reasons why all acting in a perfect
storm of circumstances to cause the price of gasoline
to skyrocket. The liberal media will report the
prices are up and then go into a painfully long story
about how much the oil companies are making.
That’s supposed to make you think the oil
companies are gouging the consumer and that’s a
story that’s been discredited over and over
until it belongs in the same trash pile as “tax
cuts are just for the rich”.
But somehow liberals, incapable of adjusting to reality, give you the same old song and dance again and again and expect you to keep buying it. The facts are these. The demand for gasoline in America is at an all-time high. There have been no new refineries built in 30 years, thanks to the pressure put on federal agencies who control such things by the environmental fruit cakes. The refineries that we do have are experiencing uncommon breakdowns and that shortens the supply drastically.
So, you might ask, if the price of a barrel of oil is lower than it was last year, then why are prices up? I just told you. And one other factor nobody seems to have taken into consideration is that the price of everything is up over the years. A gallon of gasoline is still less than the cost of a gallon of milk. Yet you don’t hear the liberals say “big milk is gouging the consumer”.
And what about utilities? Take the phone companies for example. When Ma Bell was split up and competition allowed, weren’t we supposed to see prices come down? But they haven’t. In fact, they’ve gone up. The same is true for electricity and gas. The problem is one of perception. The price of gas gets big media attention, plenty of media attention and we’re told not so subtly that we’re being taken to the cleaners.
So what do the liberals want to do? They want to tax oil company profits even more. And that’ll only make the price of gas go up that much more. Liberals, bless their little pointed heads. They think government is the answer to everything when most of time, government is the source of the problem. This is especially true in business. Liberals always complain about big oil, big business, big this or that, making big profits. Big is bad to hear them tell it.
So what’s their answer to all this big badness? Big government.

North America’s “Union”
May 22, 2007 • Filed in National
The thing everybody’s been talking about for
the last few days has been the proposed immigration
amnesty bill. Now, before I go any further, be
advised that there are some pretty high placed liars
in Washington who want you to believe that a bill
that rewards breaking the immigration laws of this
country with an easy path to citizenship isn’t
amnesty. Well, if you’ve spent any time at all
in a cow pasture, I’m sure you’ve
probably stepped in that argument.
But the big question here is “why”. Why would the United States government do something as stupid as propose amnesty for millions of criminals? On the morning show, we asked a pertinent question and it looks like we scored a bulls eye. We asked, “if this passes, can the North American Union be the next step?”
The answer is “yes”. The amnesty bill, as it’s now proposed, cites the SPP, the Security and Prosperity Partnership, which is a plan to merge the United States with Canada and Mexico into a European Union style merger of the United States with a wimpy, socialist country and a poverty-ridden ultra corrupt country to form one nation. And it would be “goodbye” to American sovereignty in the deal.
The SPP agreement was signed by President Bush two years ago and that would go a long way in explaining why the president is very simply committing an act of treason. The administration has tried to keep this evil plan below the radar because they know the American people would overwhelmingly reject it. And they’ve either kept Congress in the dark about it or Congress is so spineless they won’t stand up for America and put the kibosh on this idea in spite of what Bush wants.
Who’s looking out for America here? It’s certainly not George W. Bush. He’s gone over to the enemy and is playing footsie with the America hating woman killer Ted Kennedy and the rest of the radical left who want to see America dissolved. But that leads to another question. Why would Bush want to do it? The liberals have accused Bush of lying about Iraq but you don’t hear one word of disapproval about him lying about being a conservative. Isn’t a lie a lie, no matter who tells it?
He’s botched the war in Iraq in what could be a winnable conflict. He’s tried to lead us down the socialist path with Medicare. He’s violated the Constitution with No Child Left Behind. And now there’s this. Every historic person wants to leave a legacy. And George W. Bush apparently is no different. He wants a legacy.
But when you’re talking about leaving a legacy, so did Benedict Arnold.

More Criminal Alien News
May 21, 2007 • Filed in National
Last week, the American people were subjected to the
abomination that is the proposed criminal alien deal
that the Democrats, and some Republicans, in the
Senate want to shove down our throats. Well, you true
Americans are to be congratulated for the way you
reacted. In Washington, on Capitol Hole, uh, Hill,
the phones were ringing off the hook Friday with
people calling to vehemently protest the amnesty
proposal.
Now, whether such enemies of America as Tipsy Ted Kennedy and George W. Bush listen is another matter. They haven’t in the past so why should they start now? But it’s not over by a long shot. For you folks who called, tell someone about it and have them call. And use the word “vote” if you want to get their attention. That word will where others fail. Tell them that if this idea passes, they’ll all be looking for work after the election next year.
And while you’re at it, tell them to insist on the firing of Homeland Security Secretary Casper Milquetoast, uh, Michael Chertoff. You see, this whole amnesty proposal was Ted Kennedy’s idea and Chertoff has been doing nothing but gushing with praise about the woman killer and prominent America hater. Chertoff and Homeland SECURITY? That’s become a contradiction in terms, hasn’t it?
If some liberals can call for the firing of Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez because he did the same thing Slick Willie did, except on a much, much smaller scale AND it was legal, then why can’t there be a call for the firing of a man whose job is to secure our borders and he’s praising an enemy of America like Ted Kennedy? Folks, just because we’ve had one day of success doesn’t mean we’ve won yet. We’ve got to keep it up. We’ve got to make those clowns feel the heat.
And if you want something extra to inspire you, try this. Now, there’s talk of another kind of amnesty, a TAX amnesty for these criminals who sneaked into the country in disregard of the law, made money, didn’t pay taxes on it, and owe back taxes. And the Bush administration is all for it. Last April I had to pay because what I owed was more than what was taken out of what I made. I had to pay probably because I’m a law abiding citizen who was born in the U S. I didn’t get any kind of tax amnesty and neither would you.
But criminal aliens? Well, that’s different. Anybody who would even entertain the thought of passing this bill needs to be unceremoniously dumped. Meanwhile, keep up the phone calls. That’s the bell of freedom ringing.

The Amnesty Bill
May 18, 2007 • Filed in National
Yesterday, President George W. Bush and members of
the Senate from both parties proved beyond all doubt
that they are no friend of the American people. And
come the next election, the people who agreed to this
shafting of America should be made to pay in the
harshest way, at the polls. Of course, Bush is
leaving office after next year so you can’t do
much to hurt him but there’s one-third of the
Senate up for re-election and they should be made to
feel the wrath of the American people.
You probably know by now that the Senate worked out an agreement on an amnesty bill for criminal aliens who broke the law by coming into this country illegally. That’s all you can call it. It’s not a guest worker program, it’s amnesty for breaking the law. And it’s worse than that. The result is going to be the nation being overrun with even more criminal aliens because they know there’s no punishment for breaking the law.
In fact, it’s just the opposite. They’ll be rewarded with an easier path to citizenship than the people who immigrate to this country legally. Didn’t we learn anything from what happened in 1986 when Congress voted amnesty to 2.8 million criminal aliens? That’s how many we had then. Today we’ve got 12 million and I suspect that’s a low ball figure. So 21 years from now, you can expect at least 100 million criminal aliens running around with their hands out wanting free social programs.
Do you know what that’s going to do to America? It’s going to be the destruction of the middle class and the middle class is the buffer we have against a communist system. You’ll eventually have the ruling few, the rich, and the vast majority of poor because the middle class has been driven out of existence because taxes to pay for these social program will become so burdensome, only the rich will be able to pay them. Then, can Hugo Chavez or someone like him be far behind?
I’m certain the commie libs in congress just can’t wait for that to happen. Can’t these idiots in the Senate see what they’re doing? Folks, it’s more important now than ever for the American people to speak in no uncertain terms. Contact Mike Enzi and Craig Thomas and Barbara Cubin and tell them without mincing your words, “Look, you vote for this and next time around, we don’t vote for you.”
To a politician, that’s the only thing they understand. It’s time for America to save itself because it’s obvious the people in Washington have no interest in saving America. Shouldn’t we have some new people on the job?

Spying On Global Warming
May 11, 2007 • Filed in National
Just when you think the Democrats can’t do
anything dumber, they find a way to prove you wrong.
The latest case in point is the 2008 intelligence
authorization bill the Democrats have put before a
Democrat-controlled Congress. What the bill proposes
to do is to divert CIA and other intelligence
gathering resources away from terrorist-related issue
to study…. okay, get ready, here it
comes…. global warming.
I’ll repeat. The Democrats want to divert intelligence gathering resources away from spying on terrorists and begin spying on global warming. Now, if you think I’m making this up, then you probably bought an Al Gore carbon offset. But Congressman Peter Hoekstra of Michigan isn’t as shocked as some at this display of stupidity. He says it’s been done before.
He says that in the mid-90’s, during the hey day of Slick Willie and other con artists bringing disgrace on America, it was determined that environmental concerns would share equal status with national security as a priority. So instead of spy satellites tracking the whereabouts of Osama bin Laden, we began photographing what were called “environmentally sensitive” sites.
And Hoekstra says the reason for all this was just to curry favor with Al Gore. Al, the self-proclaimed inventor of the Internet and famous pathological liar, was vice president at the time. So why were they kissing up to Mr. Global Warming? Meanwhile, with our spy satellites keeping track of air pollution, where did all this lead? Does the date September 11 mean anything to you? Is it any wonder that the first syllable in Democrat is “dim”?
And now, they want to try it again. Folks, we’ve got to get those idiots out of power next year or we could all be lost. You know, I don’t think the Democrat party is mentally capable of understanding that there are evil people out there just waiting for the right moment to attack us again. That doesn’t seem to register with them. Of course, we all know it was global warming that caused the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon on September 11, 2001.
And it’s been global warming that beheaded those hostages. And it’s global warming that has vowed to conquer and destroy both Israel and the United States. It’s not Islamo-fascists who are causing the problems. It’s global warming. Yes, folks, you have to keep a sharp eye on that global warming. We need to know what it’s going to do next before it attacks us again.

"Nightline" Was Here
May 10, 2007 • Filed in Gillette
ABC’s "Nightline" came and "Nightline" went
after doing a feature on the Healthy Schools
Initiative in Campbell County. The program ran
Tuesday night and we talked about on the morning show
yesterday morning. And from the large number of calls
we got on the subject, it was almost unanimous that
the listeners didn’t think too much of the
health initiative in the schools.
Okay, nobody’s going to argue that obesity is a problem, not just with school kids but with the population in general. The disagreements come in what causes it and what do we do about it. The first point of contention is that there are parents who don’t like their kids being singled out as being overweight in a letter inviting kids to an exercise program three times a week called “The Strong Kids” club.
Whether the kid’s got a weight problem or not, nobody likes getting a letter from the school saying “Your kid’s fat." Well, it doesn’t say fat. It couches it in a term called the body mass index but it’s the same thing.
The next point of contention is “is this something the schools should really be involving themselves in? Isn’t this a parent’s responsibility, the health of their children? ” And we had calls from listeners who said the problem can’t be solved in school because kids eat so much fattening junk food at other times away from school. Then I received e-mails and faxes of the Campbell County school lunch menus and that in itself was a revelation.
I didn’t see a whole lot of difference in what the schools are serving and what we normally condemn as fattening. For instance, during May, the Campbell County school lunch menu has pizza listed four times. For the breakfast menu for May, there’s something listen three times called “Breakfast Pizza”. Total it up and you’ve got pizza seven times in a month. And you mix that in with other offerings such as tacos and sloppy joes and it makes you wonder if there’s just not a lot of talk being done by the School Board in the name of healthy schools.
Well, it did get ABC to fly a correspondent and a producer to Gillette for some time on the tube. Oh, one other thing. Looking ahead to June, and June 4th is the last day of school, it appears we have a nutritional bonanza that day. For breakfast, we have the ubiquitous breakfast pizza appearing again. And to top off the day and send the kids off to a summer of slimness, lunch is hot dogs.

Tasteless Remarks
May 09, 2007 • Filed in National
Well, I think we may have hit a new low in
tastelessness with Kansas governor Kathleen Sibelius,
a Democrat, and her remarks that the war in Iraq
exposed holes in the Kansas National Guard in the
aftermath of the tornado that wiped the town of
Greensburg off the map this past weekend and killed
11 people.
Now, this is not just some spur-of-the-moment case of bad judgment on the governor’s part. She’s been anti-war all along and has repeatedly complained about the National Guard being dispatched to Iraq. She’s carped about the shortages to Kansas she claims it’s caused. She said that, had the National Guard been there, they might have been able to respond to the tornado.
Governor, would it have made any difference? Would the National Guard being there have somehow reduced the intensity and fury of this monster storm? Folks, this is just another example of the Democrat mentality on the war.
But the timing of the governor’s remarks couldn’t have been worse. There are 11 people dead as a result of the storm and a town isn’t there anymore, it’s just a huge pile of rubble. And the governor’s taking a political position on the war in Iraq. Boy, those Democrats are really in touch with reality, aren’t they?
Senator Sam Brownback of Kansas, a Republican candidate for president, DID provide a moment of sanity. He said that if the National Guard is in Iraq, then Kansas has Fort Riley and McConnell Air Force Base and they could provide the necessary equipment to help clean up after the tornado.
And what was Governor Sibelius’s response? There was none.
And Senator Brownback added “I think FEMA has a lot of proving to do.” He was referring to FEMA’s total lack of action after Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans. And, he’s got a valid point. FEMA isn’t away fighting in Iraq. It’s been nearly a week and we haven’t heard a peep out of them. Why not?
And the silence doesn’t just stop there. Where are all the cries from the liberals about the government being insensitive to people’s needs the way they did after Katrina?
Folks, this tornado was a major disaster. A whole town was wiped off the map. Human life was lost. Apparently this doesn’t matter to the Democrat governor. The most important thing to her was to make a political statement about the war in Iraq.
Remember that the next time they start preaching mercy and compassion.

Liberals Are Bullies
May 07, 2007 • Filed in National
I’ve come to the conclusion that liberals are
the schoolyard bullies of the political process. They
talk big. They threaten. They tell you how everybody
is on their side and how they’re going to smash
conservatives but, like all bullies, you stand up to
them and what happens? They fall apart and run and
hide.
Witness their recent attempt to put a timetable for withdrawal from Iraq on the war funding bill. All you heard was how they were going to shove this bill down our throats and we were going to have to live with it, like it or not. Well, President Bush, in a rare moment of showing some backbone, stood up to them. For only the second time in his administration, he vetoed their bluster.
And what happened? They’re backing down from their position. They didn’t have the votes to override the veto. Now the deadline for troop withdrawal has been withdrawn from the new version of the bill. And the Democrats want the bill to pass before the May 25th recess for the Memorial Day weekend. And now the Washington Post, Pravda on the Potomac and one of the nation’s biggest media Bush haters, even reports in a story headlined “DEMOCRAT MOMENTUM IS STALLING” that, quote, “amid the debate over Iraq, priorities on their domestic agenda is languishing. ”
Would you look at that? One veto and their whole agenda starts to come apart at the seams. That must tell you right there how solid their footing is. I wonder what another veto would do. Well, they just might sustain another body blow on the “hate crimes” bill. That’s the pro-gay, anti-Christian legislation the liberals want to inflict on us that the president just may veto if it comes to his desk.
It’s a totally unnecessary bill designed to curry favor with atheists and perverts, not exactly a majority of the people in this country. It would grant these misfits special status under the law rather than give equal protection, something we already have. The Democrats came to power back in January with no agenda other than to hurt Bush and cause trouble for the country.
Maybe, just maybe, the president is beginning to see what these worthless political hacks are up to and has decided to get on track with what’s really best for America. And if he vetoes this “hate crimes” bill, then you can watch the bullies slither back under the rocks they crawled out from…. again.
And isn’t that what the term “balance of power” is all about?

The Queen Visits
May 04, 2007 • Filed in National
One thing that’s a mystery to me is the
fascination we, as Americans, have over the British
royal family. Queen Elizabeth is coming to America
for, of all things, the Kentucky Derby. Do you think
she’ll be disappointed when the horses
don’t leap over the hedge chasing a fox?
At any rate, we have this almost worshipful attitude about English royalty. Why? If you want a good read on the way English royalty has been to the United States, just go back and read the Declaration of Independence. By the way, didn’t we fight a war in 1776 so we could rid ourselves of being subjected to royalty?
Now, I’m not saying that Queen Lizzie has the power George III did. Quite the contrary. She has absolutely zero power. It’s a figurehead position that’s long outlived its usefulness. Why wouldn’t it be more newsworthy if Tony Blair came to the Kentucky Derby? After all, he’s the prime minister and he’s the one who makes the decisions of government.
And where are the environmentalists in all this? She’s having to bring a special limousine just to carry her hats. That’s a lot of greenhouse gasses just to carry around a bunch of hats, don’t you think? Why haven’t we heard from Al Gore? The queen’s got money. Maybe he could sell her some carbon offsets.
Folks, look at the royal family in the light of truth. They’re the royal family. They marry each other in a lot of instances, or at least they have in the past before Diana and Camilla Parker Bowles came along. So do you know what that makes them? They’re in-breeds. There’s no split in the family tree.
And when we commoners meet a member of royalty, we’re supposed to bow and curtsy and all that kind of pseudo-worship. I always liked John Lennon’s attitude about it. When the Beatles received some award from the queen, John was asked what he thought of meeting the queen. And he answered, “Oh, Lizzie’s a good old girl I suppose.”
Well, since she’s at the Kentucky Derby, do you think she’ll go up to the betting window and put two pound sterlings on a horse? Or did she call a bookie in advance? But there’ll be lots of people there to get a glimpse of royalty. The common answer as to why seems to be “I’ve never seen a queen before? ” Really, you’ve never seen a queen before? Ever been to San Francisco? They’ve got thousands of them. There’s at least one on every block.

Lodging Tax ‘08
May 03, 2007 • Filed in Gillette
Well, it looks like the lodging tax is going to be
presented to the public again. If you’ll
remember, in 2004 when it was proposed to raise the
lodging tax from 2 to 3 percent or do away with it
completely, the “we don’t want your
tourist dollars” crowd did away with it
completely. That’s one I still don’t
understand.
So when do we get to vote yea or nay on this newest incarnation of the lodging tax? It looks like it could be on the ballot in next year’s primary election. That ought to give both sides enough time for the people in favor of it to mount an argument for it and the people who are against it to go on another xenophobic emotional tear. For you kids in the No Child Left Behind Program, you can look up xenophobic in your dictionary. Here’s a clue. It’s starts with the letter “X”.
Last time around, I made no secret of how I felt about it. It’s not a tax that people in Campbell County pay. Oh, I know, I had arguments from the “keep the outsiders away” bunch, “Well, what about people living in hotels while they find a place to live? ” One of the best kept secrets of that was you don’t pay the tax after thirty consecutive days in a hotel. And the new proposal keeps the tax at 2%. We had calls to the morning program from people who said if you raise it to 3% now, it’ll be 20% before you know it.
Another well kept secret the anti-visitor Neanderthals didn’t want you to know. There’s a state ceiling of 4%. Sheridan raised theirs from 2 to 4% and there wasn’t this great outcry about it. Why is that, do you think? The money raised is used to promote tourism for Gillette and Campbell County and tourism is the second largest industry in the state. Think about all those people going to Devils Tower or Yellowstone. They have money. Why do we listen to a group of backwoods buffoons who don’t think anything good has happened here since the stagecoaches stopped running?
This is a classic win-win situation. We win because we don’t pay the tax. The area wins because, as we said earlier, those tourists have money. If they spend some of it here, that’s all the better, isn’t it? Councilman Tom Murphy said, “voting the tax down was probably the silliest thing we’ve ever done as a community. ”
But the lodging tax being on the primary election ballot isn’t set in stone yet. Maybe it will be. And, if enough people wake up to the economic realities and don’t listen to the emotional outbursts we had in 2004, we can continue on into the 21st century.

“Nightline” in Gillette
May 02, 2007 • Filed in Gillette
They’re baaack! Yes, folks, the national media
have once again picked Gillette for a hatchet job,
uh, to be highlighted on a news feature program. Just
when you thought it was safe to go back out on the
streets after the Dan Rather environmentalist
propaganda piece on coal bed methane, here comes ABC
and a producer and a correspondent from the
“Nightline” program.
And they’re here right now, even as we speak, and they’ve been talking to students, parents, and school officials about the Healthy Schools Initiative. You see, Nightline has been running a series on childhood obesity and supposedly they’re here to gather information for that series. Okay, out of all the cities and towns in America, how did they come to pick Gillette?
Okay, with the coal bed methane issue, I can understand. Gillette IS the energy capital of America. But childhood obesity is a national problem, isn’t it? Oh, well, for whatever reason they’re here, they want to focus in on fat kids. And they’ve scheduled visits to Wagonwheel Elementary and the Campbell County Aquatic Center along with several other unnamed destinations.
Okay, another question: What does the Campbell County Aquatic Center have to do with childhood obesity? Maybe there’s a connection somewhere, I don’t know. But is the healthy schools initiative the answer? I mean, you can serve healthy foods all day but when a kid gets out of school, how do you monitor what they do? You don’t. We haven’t reached that stage of the food police, well, not yet.
Okay, it’s good that schools are doing what they can to encourage eating right. But how did we get to this state of affairs to begin with? Could it be the lack of exercise and doing kid things that kids have done forever? Remember when kids used to go out and play? Well, now they’ve got MySpace, and YouTube, any number of non-physical activites that let the calories pile up and turn to fat.
I’m sorry but a computer keyboard is not an exercise program. But smile for the camera because once again Gillette is thrown into the national media spotlight. There’s no word on when the Nightline piece will be shown or how much face time Gillette will get. But at least it won’t be Dan Rather or Geraldo Rivera. I guess we can be thankful for some things.
Okay, kids, smile. You’re on television.

What Does America Need?
May 01, 2007 • Filed in National
From the way the candidates are campaigning,
you’d think the election was only two weeks
away, not a year and a half. And as far as the
Democrats go, it seems to be a case “more left
than thou” for all of them.
As for the Republicans, well, what can you say? America has proven it’s a country with conservative leanings and what do the Republicans offer? They send us a group of moderate to liberals who are trying to re-position themselves as conservatives. Giuliani, McCain, Romney, and most of the rest have switched their positions from the past to fit what they think is a conservative mold.
Now, we all know the Democrats lie. It’s part of their DNA apparently. But the Republicans aren’t exactly being straight with us either. George W. Bush ran as a conservative. Well, if he’s a conservative, I’m the Queen of Sheba. But I suppose after eight years of Slick Willie disgracing the office of President, anybody would look like a conservative.
But George W. Bush has been anything but a conservative the way he championed socialist programs like the Medicaid Prescription Drug plan and that god-awful No Child Gets Ahead plan to destroy the education system in America. And I don’t think I have to mention his complete lack of action on the criminal alien situation. Where are the true conservatives?
Oh, it’s easy to talk the talk. Anybody can do that. But nobody seems to be walking the walk. Why? We’re at a time when we need another Ronald Reagan, someone who will put America first and political gain second. But what we’ve got now, by and large, is a group that’ll say anything and do anything for a handful of votes.
Meanwhile, the radical leftist Democrats have taken over and they want America to surrender to its enemies while they spend money like a drunken sailor on social programs. And the Republicans just sit and smile and do nothing to stop them while they offer up their own social programs. What’s wrong with this picture? Why won’t the Republicans stand up for what made America great?
Folks, don’t you think it’s time we the people did something? After all it’s our country and our lives hanging in the balance. If the Republicans don’t do something to stop this skid we’re in, they just might find themselves further out the door than they already are. If things don’t change, Americans are going to say “I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take it anymore. ” And hello, third party.
As for the Republicans, well, what can you say? America has proven it’s a country with conservative leanings and what do the Republicans offer?
