Learning centers a major focus at Gillette College

Students at Gillette College utilized the learning centers more than 3,300 times during the 2013-14 academic year, totaling nearly 9,000 hours of aided study.

In the fall 2013 semester, 332 different students made 2,045 visits to the Gillette College math, writing and tutoring centers, which were renamed as the “Success@GC” centers for the spring semester. The math center received 1,617 visits from 192 students.

This spring, more than 1,300 visits from 245 students were made to the Success@GC centers.

“Helping students earn their degrees is the center of our mission and the Success@GC centers are a key component,” said Dr. Mark Englert, vice president and CEO of Gillette College. “As part of the Complete College Wyoming plan, it is our priority to continue equipping students with the education and skills to sustain and grow our communities.”

The centers are free and open to anyone enrolled at Gillette College. Individual tutoring can be made by appointment.

“We offer a lot of different options in terms of helping students succeed with their academic work,” said Jess Bank, Tutor and Writing Center Coordinator. “Peer tutoring, one-on-one help and workshops are all available to students.”

Bank said the learning centers are geared to help all students. Whether they are aiming to complete a math class to earn a degree, boost their grade-point average or master a course, students can find assistance at Gillette College’s learning centers.

Bank also said tutors can offer help with more than just math and writing.

“We have a wide array of tutors and do our best to find tutors for any class,” Bank said.
“Peer tutors will be highly trained in both content and best strategies.”

The Success@GC centers are open for the summer. The math center is open from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. every day. The writing center is open 8-5, Monday through Thursday. Tutoring is available by appointment.

Registration for summer and fall classes at Gillette College is now open. To learn more about the Success@GC centers, call 686-0254, ext. 2352.
