Neary gets 300th career win, Pronghorns win nail bitter in Casper

CASPER, Wyo.--It was the Lorenzo Bonham Show in the last minutes of the game to give Gillette College (19-2, 8-0) an 83-80 win at the Swede against Casper College (13-8, 6-2). Head Coach Shawn Neary of Gillette College also won his 300th win in his coaching career.

It was tied at 78 with a couple minutes left to go in the game. Bonham, who finished with 28 points, broke the tie by making one free throw to give Gillette a 79-78 lead. Casper College couldn't score on its next offensive possession.

Bonham was thrown a pass underneath the basket to lay it in for two, making it 81-78. With 30 seconds to go and Gillette with the ball, the Pronghorns ate up the clock and gave the ball to Bonham at the key. Bonham was fouled inside the arc. Bonham made both free throws to put Gillette College up 83-80 with 18.5 second left in the game.

Casper College tried to get a quick two-pointer down low, but the shot was blocked by Rickey Suggs of the Pronghorns.

Casper College, who was up by 11 points at halftime, was able to respond to Gillette's shots through most of the second half with three-pointers. However, Bonham, as well as the rest of the Pronghorns earned a tough 18th win in a row. More importantly, Gillette College defeated the second-place Thunderbirds on the road.

Bonham finished with 28 points, followed by Dwight Anderson with 16 points. Renard Suggs and Muhammad Ahmed both had 11 points.

Shawn Neary has been the head coach for Gillette College since the team's inception in the 2009-2010 basketball season. Prior to coaching Gillette College, Neary was the head man for the Miles Community College Pioneers (Miles City, Mont.) for thirteen seasons.

Of Neary's 300 wins, 204 were with Miles Community College and 96 with Gillette College.

The Pronghorns will be back at the South Campus on Wednesday to play the Northwest College Trappers. Tip-off is set for 7:30pm. You can hear the game on 93.3 The Legend and online at https://www.network1sports.com/station/kled.
