Pronghorn men and women victorious in first games back from break

GILLETTE, Wyo.--The Gillette College Pronghorn men and women’s basketball teams easily took care of the Miles Community College teams at the South Campus on Saturday afternoon. The women (10-6, 2-1) won 85-52 while the men (14-2, 3-0) defeated the Pioneers, 104-60.

The Pronghorn women had five players finish with double digits and Alicia Carline finished with a double double. Whitney George, Kallee Wilson and Bailey Roebling ended the game with more than twice their points-per-game averages.

Three Lady Pioneers came into the game with double-digit averages, but only Tess Blaquiere finished with more than nine points, leading the team with twelve.

Miles Community College was held to only 12 buckets from the field at a 20.3 percent field goal percentage in the contest. However, Miles out-shot Gillette College from the charity stripe, 23 to fourteen.

George scored 10 points in the contest, 6.3 points over her average, while Wilson led the Pronghorns with 19 points.

There were a few lead changes in the first half, with Miles leading by as many as six points at 19-13, but Gillette College took the final lead change of the game shortly after at 22-21. The Pronghorns led by as many as 36 points.

In the men’s game, Gillette College trailed only twice and by four points or less. Five Pronghorns also finished with 10 or more points as Rickey Suggs had 14 boards and 11 points. Every Pronghorn that had playing time in the game, contributed on the scoreboard.

Gillette College made 50 percent of its attempts from beyond the arc with Anderson making five of them. Ben Glover was also strong in three point land, as he sank four triples on his was to a 16-point night-nearly twice his average.

For Miles Community College, only two players finished with 10 points. Gillette College was able to hold the Pioneers leading scorer, Ryan McCarty, to two points in the game. McCarty averaged 15.1 coming into he game.

Lorenzo Bonham of Gillette College led all players with 24 points in the game; he had 16 in the first half.

Both Pronghorn team head to Riverton, Wyo. on Wednesday to play Central Wyoming College. The men and women will be back home next Saturday to take on Dawson Community College.
