Pronghorn women fall, men defeat Western Wyoming

GILLETTE, Wyo.--The Pronghorn women (6-21, 3-11) fell to Western Wyoming Community College (11-3, 22-6), 67-64 at the South Campus on Saturday. The Pronghorn men (24-3, 13-1) took care of the Mustangs of Western Wyoming (12-15, 6-8), 87-79.

The Pronghorn women lacked depth, as well as experience in Saturday's game. Gillette College had two sophomores, Chelsie Pitt and Kiela Garner, out of the game due to injuries. Pitt is done for the season, while Garner is nursing a leg until the Region IX tournament.

That left Gillette College with nine players in uniform, three of them with limited playing time. Despite that, Gillette College had a five-point lead in the first half. They fell behind, but kept it close through the second half.

With seconds left in the game and Gillette with the final possession, Three-point threats Bridget Cargal and Chelsea Ullery just couldn't find an open shot before time expired to tie the game.

Alicia Carline led Gillette College with 24 points and another double-double.

In the mens game, Gillette College led the entire contest. Muhammad Ahmed shined in the game. He led the Pronghorns with 26 points. What was more impressive, was Ahmed's free throw shooting. Ahmed came into the game making 51.6 percent of his shots from the charity stripe. He went 10 for 10 in Saturday's game.

Gillette College was 19 for 22 as a team from the line.

Lorenzo Bonham was able to drive to the basket and finish with 18 points.

Jonathon Mines of Western Wyoming Community College scored five three-pointers and led the Mustangs with 21 points.

Both Pronghorn teams will host Casper College at the South Campus on Friday. The womens game is set for 5:30 pm, the men at 7:30 pm.
