Pronghorn women crush Sheridan, Men let game slip away against Generals

GILLETTE– Wednesday night was the open house for the Pronghorn Center, as the Pronghorn squads took on rival Sheridan College. The Pronghorn women (9-5) ran away from Sheridan College in an 86-55 rout of the Lady Generals. The (12) Pronghorn men (15-2) committed costly mistakes late in the second half to fall to Sheridan College.

Will Rider's Pronghorn women were able to spread the scoring around, as 5 ladies finished with double figures. Rickie Engesser led the way with 14 points. Engesser and Shay Powell had a big night on defense, with both stealing the ball from Sheridan College four times apiece on the night. Gillette College ended up taking the ball away from Sheridan 15 times.

Powell, Dawnee Keckler and Haley Urbatsch had a stellar night, as all three scored twice as many points as their averages coming into the contest.

Finally, the Pronghorn women made 81.3 percent of their shots from the line.

In the men's game, It was close for the majority of the first half, with the Pronghorns having a burst in the final minutes to take a 10-point lead at the half.

The Pronghorns kept a single-digit lead for three quarters of the second half, but in the final stretch, Gillette College made careless passes under the basket. In addition to some big defensive rebounds by Sheridan College, those mistakes turned into points for the Generals.

Jared Evans led the Pronghorns with 28 points and Edwin Jeudy had a double-double, but Gillette College is 0-1 in Region IX play.

Both Pronghorn teams play Northwest College, in Powell, on Saturday. The women tip off at 3:00 pm, with the men to follow at 5:00 pm.
