Most people may not be surprised to hear that alcohol was a factor in this report from the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.  Just after 1:00 am this morning, the sheriff’s office responded to a call of a shooting on Nathan Hale Road.

Earlier David Blair, a 45-year old male became involved in a physical and verbal fight with a 39-year old female after she refused his advances.

“He took a swing at her” explained Campbell County Undersheriff Scott Matheny.  “Then he decided to leave and then he comes back, and he has a gun.”

At this point the 39-year old woman demonstrated that she knew how to take care of herself and proceeded to bring the situation to an end.

“Somehow [she] moves the gun out of the way, gets behind him and throws him to the ground.”

At that point, two things happened.  One, Blair began bleeding from the head.  Second, the gun went off.

“They both get up thinking each other is shot.  The [Blair’s] roommate then calls and says that he thinks that the female has been shot.”

Undersheriff Scott Matheny believed the blood that confused the situation was just from Blair’s head injury.  “She had blood on her as well because he had been bleeding” Matheny added.

David Blair was taken into custody for aggravated assault and battery.

“No one was shot” Matheny noted.  “The gun went off in the air, and I think there is a hole in the ceiling.”
