During Monday’s Gillette City Council workshop, council members listened to eleven applicants for three available retail liquor licenses.
Although no decision was made following the presentations, Council President Kevin McGrath says each council member will select four candidates in an effort to narrow the field.
“All council members and the mayor were asked to write down four choices of theirs and turn it into administration by Friday and the administration I believe will tally it up and we’ll see where it goes from there,” McGrath explains.
Last week, City of Gillette administrator Carter Napier describes the large list of applicants should be narrowed down prior to making a final selection so the council doesn’t waste the time of applicants who will not be in the final running. After all, the application process and corresponding paperwork is in and of itself time consuming.
According to City of Gillette public information officer Joe Lunne, the council will continue discussing this matter in February.
“The city council will renew the existing liquor licenses at the second council meeting in February, which is February 21, and I would anticipate that their decision on the three available retail liquor licenses will be made about that same time,” says Lunne.
