The City of Gillette's Public Works Department announced that the final public meeting for the Field of Dreams Master Plan will be held on Wednesday, giving the public one final opportunity to comment on the plan.
According to City of Gillette public information officer Joe Lunne, the city’s consultant for the project, Bruce Dees and Associates, and staff from the Public Works office will be present to answer the public’s questions and comment on the plan.
“The city council will review the master plan on February 27, so if you’re interested in the Field of Dreams and what the proposal is to see what’s going to go into it, please head down to Gillette College on Wednesday, February 8, at 6:00 p.m.”
The Field of Dreams consists of 320 acres of land east of the Country Club Golf Course near Garner Lake Road and Boxelder Road. The purpose of the land is to develop it along recreational lines.
Nearly 40 people attended the first public meeting for the Field of Dreams on November 2. Throughout the meeting, the public made all types of suggestions as to what should be done with the property. To date, the preliminary master plan calls for 13 Little League baseball fields, 8 Girls' Fastpitch Softball fields, 4 Babe Ruth baseball fields, an indoor practice facility, a 10,000 capacity covered stadium, a skate park, a BMX track, 4 soccer fields, 6 multi-purpose fields, and a dog park among others.
Bruce Dees & Associates have been working on the preliminary master plan for the Field of Dreams since October, and have held seven meetings with an "Ad Hoc" committee consisting of 20 representatives from public groups involved with the planning, such as the school district, Campbell County Parks, City Parks, Rugby Club, Pronghorn Archery Club, and Legion Baseball to name a few.
The final public meeting on the Field of Dreams will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 8, at the Gillette College Presentation Hall. To view the preliminary master plan, click here.
