RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - South Dakota Republican Representative Kristi Noem says she has raised more than $1.3 million in her bid for a second term in the U.S. House.
Noem's year-end total includes almost $1 million in cash on hand. She said in a prepared statement that she's confident her campaign will have the money to "get our message out."
Noem spent $2.3 million in defeating former Democratic Representative Stephanie Herseth Sandlin in 2010.
Recently announced Democratic House candidate Matt Varilek has raised $104,000. Fellow Democratic House candidate Jeff Barth loaned or donated most of the $12,000 his campaign has received.
Varilek tells the Rapid City Journal that the money he raised in a short time shows that his campaign is legitimate.
