Gillette's Tucker Young Honored Again

Courtesy Photo/Scott Young.The Miles City Pioneers (36-15-1) continue to have a great season after winning the Region IX Tournament in Glendive, MT last weekend with wins over Southeast Community College (3-1 and 8-4) and Dawson Community College (5-1, 12-6). This is the 7th straight season that Miles Community College (MCC) has won their respective region tournament.

Gillette Wild honored by American West Hockey League

Gillette WildThe America West Hockey League (AWHL) honored the Gillette Wild Junior Hockey Tier III team last week by naming them the Organization of the Year in their inaugural season in the league. One of the main reasons the Wild were honored by other coaches, general mangers and owners in the league is because of all of the work the franchise did in the community, but Gillette’s head Coach and General Manager Tom Winkler knows this wasn’t the only reason.

Hunter calls Gillette an ‘Australian Version’ of his hometown

In his first and only season for the Pronghorns, Australian native James Hunter scored 389 points in 30 games.  On Tuesday, Hunter signed with Washington State University. The 6’10” center played one season for the Gillette College Pronghorns last and will now join Campbell County High School alumni Jordan Kelley.

Billings Wins 3 Game Set From Gillette

Roughriders’ pitcher Austin Tennant picked off a runner on first base Sunday.  Gillette went on to lose to the Billings Scarlets 15-4.  BRN photo by Nathan Kobielusz.In the final game of their three game set with the Billings Scarlets, the Gillette American Legion baseball team lost 15-4. The game was close through three innings with the Riders trailing just 4-2 after Andrew Youngs and Tanner Rogen reached base on back-to-back singles in the bottom of the third before Drake Kelly singled to drive in Youngs for his fifth RBI of the weekend.  Before the inning was over, Westin Hinkel singled to bring home Rogen.

Tough End to a Great Season for the Wild

BRN photo by Nathan Kobielusz.After losing their best of seven series 4 games to 2 to Missoula on Friday night the Gillette Wild had to take on Billings in a best of three series to qualify for the 2012 National Tournament in Rochester, MN. In game 1 on Saturday in Billings the Wild fell 3-1 as Stanislav Izvekov scored Gillette's first goal since game five against Missoula ending a scoring drought of 115 minutes and 19 seconds.

Gillette Earns Split with Billings

Gillette’s Drake Kelley earned the win in relief of starter Mason Stillman in the second game of Saturday’s double header.  BRN photo by Nathan Kobielusz.The Gillette Roughriders American Legion baseball team split their Saturday doubleheader with the Billings Scarlets as both teams earned blowout victories on a perfect weather day for baseball. In game 1 the Roughriders made the Scarlets look like the much better  team in their 16-4 loss, but then in game 2 Gillette proved that was a fluke with a their 13-6 win to improve to 15-5 on the season while the Scarlets dropped to 4-3.
