Thursday night’s edition of the Sheridan/Gillette rivalry didn’t disappoint.  However, it was a disappointing loss for the No. 3 Camels (13-5, 3-2) as they fell to the No. 2 Broncs (15-2, 5-0) when Riley Ryan sank a game-ending three-pointer to put Sheridan up 59-58.

The Camels got off to an ugly start, as the Broncs began the game on a 7-0 run.  The Camels didn’t get on the board until Cody Anderson made a free throw shot with 4:24 left in the first quarter. After that shot, however, the Camels began to settle down and they actually held a 16-11 lead at the end of the first quarter.

During the second quarter, Logan Wasson chipped in two three-pointers, and combined with Anderson’s persistent strong play, the Camels held a 32-24 halftime lead. By the end of the third quarter, the Camels were up 49-42.  Unfortunately for Gillette, Sheridan kept the game close by taking advantage of the Camels’ missed opportunities.

The Camels were not able to run away from Sheridan in the fourth quarter as they missed key opportunities from the free throw line, eventually allowing Sheridan the last second chance to make the game-winning three-pointer at the end of regulation.  That chance came as the Camels were on top 58-56.  Ryan had an open look from the left of the key and two feet behind the arc.  As the seconds ticked down, Ryan sank the game-winning three-pointer as time expired.

Each team’s leading scorer finished with a game-high 22 points.  Coming into Thursday’s game, Cody Anderson averaged 15.1 points per game, while Riley Ryan averaged 15.9 points per game.

Next for the Camels, they hit the road to take on Cheyenne South on Friday, February 10.  You can catch all the action on 97.3 KAML-FM and online at http://www.network1sports.com/station/kaml#menus beginning at 7:15 p.m. with the Shell Food Mart pregame show.
