Gillette Wild honored by American West Hockey League

Gillette WildThe America West Hockey League (AWHL) honored the Gillette Wild Junior Hockey Tier III team last week by naming them the Organization of the Year in their inaugural season in the league. One of the main reasons the Wild were honored by other coaches, general mangers and owners in the league is because of all of the work the franchise did in the community, but Gillette’s head Coach and General Manager Tom Winkler knows this wasn’t the only reason.

Wild Tender Offers to 3 Local Standouts

Gillette Wild general manager and head coach Tom Winkler says he tendered offers to three local players following a development/tryout camp last weekend.  BRN photo by Nathan Kobielusz.From Friday, April 20, through Sunday, April 22, in Casper the Gillette Wild Junior Hockey Tier III held a development/Tryout Camp for players from around the region and Head Coach Tom Winkler was very impressed with the turnout as close to 40 players showed up for a chance to improve their game and ultimately try to land a spot with the Wild for the coming season.

Tough End to a Great Season for the Wild

Casey Moneer led all Wild players in playoff points with 11, including 10 assists. Moneer’s 11 points are the most by any player so far in the America West Hockey League playoffs.  BRN photo by Nathan Kobielusz.After losing their best of seven series 4 games to 2 to Missoula on Friday night the Gillette Wild had to take on Billings in a best of three series to qualify for the 2012 National Tournament in Rochester, MN. In game 1 on Saturday in Billings the Wild fell 3-1 as Stanislav Izvekov scored Gillette's first goal since game five against Missoula ending a scoring drought of 115 minutes and 19 seconds.

Gillette's Season on the Line After Loss

BRN photo by Nathan Kobielusz.For the first time since December 17, 2011 and just the third time all season long the Gillette Wild Junior Hockey Tier III team was shutout. The Wild lost their best of seven playoff series 4 games to 2 with Missoula's 5-0 win at Glacier Ice Arena Friday night as the Maulers advanced to the America West Hockey League championship series against Helena who defeated Billings 4 games to 1 in the first round.

Gillette Wild Take Down Missoula Again

On Saturday the Wild beat the Maulers 5-3 and on Sunday at Spirit Hall Ice Arena they forced a game six on the road with a 4-2 win after trailing 1-0 early in the first period.

Wild Win First Ever Playoff Game

The Wild celebrate their first playoff victory in franchise history Saturday afternoon at Spirit Hall Ice Arena.  BRN photo by Nathan Kobielusz.The Gillette Wild could have picked up their first playoff win in franchise history in the first three games with Missoula in their best of seven playoff series, but the puck didn't go their way until game four. The Wild finally got over the hump against the Maulers as they beat them for the first time this season 5-3 on Saturday at Spirit Hall Ice Arena to force a game 5.

Wild to Open Playoffs on the Road

Stanislav Izvekov scoreed the game-winning goal with under six minutes in Friday’s game at Billings to put the Wild on top 4-3.  BRN photo by Nathan Kobielusz.The Gillette Wild Junior Hockey tier III team closed out the regular season in fine form over the weekend as they swept through their two games against Billings to win the season series against the Bulls. “Our goal was to generate some momentum and some confidence going into the postseason,” said Wild Head Coach Tom Winkler, and they did just that.

Gillette Wild Set to Close Out the Regular Season

Forward Taylor Motsinger leads with Wild with 67 points and 35 goals scored. BRN photo by Nathan Kobielusz.The Gillette Wild Junior Hockey Tier III team's dominance against Great Falls continued this weekend as they picked up two more wins over the Americans by a combined score of 17-5. The Wild closed out their season series with Great Falls winning all ten match-ups by a combined score of 78-27. With their fourth win in a row the Wild pulled their season record back to .500 at 21-21-2.

Gillette Wild Struggle in 3-Game Weekend

Gillette Wild Takes Down the Best

BRN photo by Nathan Kobielusz.In what could be called their best weekend in the franchises young history, the Gillette Wild Junior Hockey Tier III team swept though their weekend road games as they opened up the trip with a very a stunning 4-3 win over Helena Friday night and then destroyed Great Falls Saturday night 11-3 to win their third straight game.

Gillette Wild That Much Closer to the Playoffs

Gillette Wild Head Coach Tom Winkler says goalie Nick Vittori was outstanding against Helena Friday, despite losing 2-3.  Vittori made 69 saves on the 72 shots he faced, including 17 of 17 in the scoreless third period. BRN photo by Nathan Kobielusz.This past week the Gillette Wild Junior Hockey Tier III team once gain ended up splitting their games as they took down Bozeman 3-2 and fell to Helena 2-3. With the split the Wild (14-17) still have a fairly comfortable hold on the fourth position in the America West Hockey League (AWHL) with 28 points, which puts them 10 points in front of Bozeman (9-24) and 17 points behind third place Billings (22-8).

Gillette Wild Drops Two to Helena at Home
