PINEDALE, Wyo. (AP) - Authorities say a fatal crash near Pinedale last week was a suicide.

The Wyoming State Patrol says 45-year-old Thayne Adams of Marbleton swerved into an oncoming garbage truck on U.S. Highway 191 just south of the Pinedale airport on Feb. 7. Adams' Dakota pickup collided head on with the truck and both vehicles caught fire.

The driver of the truck, 48-year-old Clayton McCarty, was able to get out before the fire but was taken St. John's Medical Center in Jackson with unspecified injuries.

The patrol said that witness statements and information gathered about Adams' state of mind before the crash led to them to focus on suicide as the cause of the crash and the Sublette County coroner agreed.
