Excessive speed is being investigated as the contributing factor in a single vehicle rollover near Newcastle on July 23rd. The crash occurred at mile post 245 on US 85 approximately 15 miles east of Newcastle at 6:00 pm. 

Witness reports indicated that 25 year old William Cruzen of Ofallon, Illinois was traveling south at a high rate of speed prior to the crash in the 2004 Lexus SUV

At 9:14 PM on July 26th, the Campbell County Fire Deparment responded to mile marker 28 on HWY 50 for the report of a grass fire. The fire was caused by a hawk that had landed on the power line at a switch, was electrocuted and burned. When the hawk fell to the ground it started a grass fire. The fire burned approximately 2.5 acres.

There are 3 important blood drives scheduled for this week in Campbell County. The turnout for blood drives at the beginning of the month was not as strong as needed. Organizers will be giving away T-Shirts and Lifesavers to donors (who are indeed LIFESAVERS!) 

The drive dates and locations are as follows:

On August 2, Wyoming author Craig Johnson will be back in Campbell County to help wrap up One Book Wyoming: Campbell County. He’ll speak and sign books at Wright Branch Library (WBL) at 12 p.m. and at Campbell County Public Library (CCPLS) at 5 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served thanks to Pokey's BBQ & Smokehouse and Boot Hill.

Two fires on the Shoshone National Forest are sending plumes of smoke into the Basin's sky. Following the containment of the Dilworth fire Wednesday, the Swede Fire erupted around 5 pm. The lightning-ignited Swede Fire is burning 13 miles south of Highway 14-16-20 in the Washakie Wilderness.

Three fires are burning in our immediate region in Northeastern Wyoming. As we've previously mentioned, the Roane Creek Fire is burning about 2 1/2 miles south of US 14A on the western side of the Bighorns. Another fire known as the Pack Fire is about 10 miles north of Burgess Junction in rural terrain. Both were lightning caused. Smoke jumpers were on the scene of the second fire this morning and came from West Yellowstone to assist.

A new fire on the Shoshone erupts following the containment of another Wednesday. The Dilworth fire was reported early Sunday afternoon on the north side of the Clarks Fork Canyon. Officials determined that the fire was started by lightning.

Wyoming's unemployment rate is at a round four percent for June. Last month's unemployment rate reflects a slight rise from May, up just a twentieth of a percentile from the prior month.
