LANDER – Testing by the Wyoming Game and Fish Department has found chronic wasting disease (CWD), a fatal neurological disease of deer, elk and moose, in a deer from Fremont County in Deer Hunt Area 36. This brings the known total of CWD deer hunt areas in the Lander Region to five; areas 36, 87, 97, 98 and 157.

The 8th edition of the State Energy Efficiency Scorecard was released this week by the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy, or ACEEEE, and Wyoming ranks at the bottom. Massachusetts and California are #1 and #2 respectively.
As far as how Wyoming and its neighbor states ranked, the numbers don't look as good. Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota, Mississippi, and Alaska are the top five states in most need of improvement, the ACEEE says.

From November 18th through the 20th, the 69th annual convention of the Wyoming Association of Conservation Districts will be held in Sheridan. The convention is to feature Dan Dagget, who has worked for over 30 years as an environmental activist, on all sides of the aisle.

Recently moving to Sheridan from Casper, Kathy Parsley is on a mission to increase awareness about animal abuse. In particular, she wants the chaining of dogs to end. Parsley has a petition with about 1,000 signatures, which she hopes will lead to legislation for more humane tethering and a more specific definition of adequate shelter for outdoor animals. Earlier this morning, the Buffalo Light of Hope Breakfast took place at the Bozeman Trail Steakhouse. Special guests included Nancy Schiffer, wife of the late State Senator John Schiffer, and former Wyoming Governor Dave Freudenthal. Both of the Schiffers received the 2014 Champion for Children award, of which Nancy accepted. Governor Freudenthal was the keynote speaker, and reminisced about Schiffer...
