At about 2:15 am on August 20th, the Gillette Police Department responded to the Circle L Motel. Lieutenant Brent Wasson said a citizen reported hearing an argument followed by a gunshot. Wasson said officers arrived on scene and contacted a 21-year-old female, her 36-year-old boyfriend, and that man's 46-year-old roommate. Wasson said the investigation showed the couple had been arguing for hours after the woman allegedly showed up at the motel intoxicated. The men reported the woman eventually began hitting her boyfriend before getting a gun.
Wasson said the men reported she then pointed the gun at, or in the direction of the boyfriend. The boyfriend said he grabbed her in an attempt to disarm her just before the pistol went off. Wasson said a 9mm round went through a refrigerator and into a wall in an adjoining room.
Wasson said the 21-year-old woman denied pointing the gun at anyone but herself, in an attempt to harm herself. The woman was involuntarily hospitalized as well as cited for reckless endangering and family violence battery. Nobody was reported hurt in the incident.
