Gillette City Hall is reminding residents that it is important to check to make sure your contractor is licensed. Public Information Officer Joe Lunne said his office has fielded several inquires recently from the public regarding door hanger advertisements and faxes from contractors introducing their services. Lunne said city staff wants to make sure the public understands anytime they hire a contractor they should contact the building inspection division at the City to make sure that contractor is licensed.
Lunne noted that a contractor being licensed does not necessarily guarantee the quality of service, but it does allow the public to look up the contractor's history and experience in Gillette. Checking to see if the contractor has a history of complaints can be crucial to protecting yourself.
Lunne said increased moisture and weather events can sometimes draw new contractors to a community who are sometimes not invested in staying. Lunne notes a good step to avoid having a contractor skip town with your deposit is to simply place a call into Gillette City Hall and inquire with the building inspection division, 307-686-5260.
