At on 8:31 p.m. Wednesday, the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence on Hillside Drive for a report of an assault. Under-sheriff Scott Matheny said a 44-year-old Gillette man reported that he was attacked by a 50-year-old Gillette man. The 50-year-old is accused of trying to hit the other man in the head with a baseball bat. The 44-year-old said he was able to block that attempt but he was struck in the side of his chest before the bat was taken away. The 44-year-old said the man who attacked him also threatened to go and get a gun.
The 50-year-old was arrested on two misdemeanor warrants. A report of the alleged attack was forwarded to the Campbell County Attorney’s Office. Matheny said a felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge may follow. Matheny was not certain on a motive for the attack.
