If you often used the Gurley Overpass in Gillette for travel, your commute is about to experience disruption. At last night’s Gillette City Council meeting the council approved a maintenance project that will result in about a two week closer.
“We are recommending that the sealing take place to reduce the potential infiltration of corrosive materials and so forth, that this structure receives from time to time. We do anticipate that the closure will be no longer than twelve days and we also anticipate that it’s possible that this could start as early as next week.”--- Gillette City Administrator Carter Napier
Both Gillette Mayor Tom Murphy, and City Councilman Kevin McGrath gave city staff instructions to go the extra mile in notifying the public of that Gurley overpass closure.
“This part of our community has endured almost three years of construction.”---Murphy
The Mayor added the work is necessary but reemphasized he wanted “plenty” of notice given to the public when the dates are finalized.
“Mr. Mayor I would have one request for city staff- that once we have a definite date put up the mobile signs, detour signs as well. “---McGrath
The council voted 7-0 in favor of the Gurley Overpass Maintenance Project Quote Award to S&S Builders in the amount of $134,751.00.
