At yesterday's Campbell County Commissioners meeting, the commissioners took in information from Eugene Joyce of Wyoming Horse Racing, LLC.
“....to provide information regarding both off track betting and what they refer to as historical race betting, and that essentially it's similar to off-track betting, but the bets are placed on historical horse races. And then, finally, they are looking at eventually maybe reinstating the live horse racing out at Morningside Park at Camplex.”---Campbell County Commissioners Chairman, Dan Coolidge
Coolidge said yesterday's presentation was just an informational session, and the discussion will continue in a few weeks.
“This was just an information only presentation. In two weeks, they will come before us again and ask for a resolution to approve the Pari-Mutuel Wagering in Campbell County.”
Coolidge says as the Commisioners continue to look at the request, they are keeping in mind historical information.
“Historically, when we had horse racing here back in the 80’s, I know that there was some public concern about the fact that it lost money. It cost the tax payers money to operate it, and this will be different in the fact that we won’t have any financial exposure at all to the tax payers. The costs will be born soley by the race promoters, so its actually a win win situation for Campbell County. Part of the revenues go back to the City and County."
