FRAUD ALERT: The City of Gillette has received several calls from customers today stating that someone is calling residents saying they are "with the City of Gillette" and asking for credit card and social security information in order to pay a delinquent utility bill.
While City of Gillette customer service reps might ask you for the last four numbers of your social security number to verify that you are, in fact, you, they will not ask for the entire number, and that is not how the City of Gillette handles delinquent accounts. Do not give out your personal information over the phone unless you are certain you know who you are talking to.
If someone calls you and requests this info, get their name and phone number, then call the Police Department non-emergency line at (307) 686-5250 and report the incident.
For more information contact Public Information Officer Joe Lunne at (307) 686-5393.
