October is domestic violence awareness month. Shawna McDonald with the Gillette Abuse Refuge Foundation onvites the public to join in.
“GARF is hosting along with the Police Department and the County Attorney Victim Witness Program, some awareness events for October. Our main event that we are having is our 18th annual Candlelight vigil, it’s on October 22nd, at 6 p.m. at the City Council Chambers.”
Tuesdays event will be an opportunity for the public to hear information from survivors of domestic violence and show their support for those affected.
“That’s basically an opportunity for the public to come and hear survivor stories, hear people in our community talk about their experiences with domestic violence. We will give out information. We will have different speakers. The County Attorney is going to speak that night. We really would like the public to come and be involved and support the people in our community that have been affected by domestic violence.”
