At 5:56 am on January 15th, the Gillette Police Department responded to the 2300 block of Emerson Avenue. Gillette Police Lieutenant Brent Wasson said a 48-year-old female reported that her 53-year-old boyfriend had held her against her will. She also reported the man had threatened to kill her and then kill himself.
“During the assault, the woman was able to escape the residence, and she fled to a nearby apartment, at which time we were notified of the incident.”---Wasson
Wasson said the suspect fled the area before officers arrived. They later made contact with him by phone. The suspect was eventually located south of Gillette City limits and arrested by a Campbell County Sheriff's deputy. Wasson said this morning his office will pursue felony charges against the suspect.
Campbell County Undersheriff Scott Matheny said because of where law enforcement believed the suspect was before he was apprehended, 4J School was given a “shelter in place" status Wednesday morning. A DARE officer was also placed at the school until it was confirmed that apprehending the suspect would not pose a threat to the school.
