City of Gillette Public Information Officer Joe Lunne has provided an update on the partial 12th Street closure. Lunne said there were two excavations (one large, one small) made to check the water main underneath 12th Street. As of 10 a.m. Thurday, the Water Division and the contractor, have the smaller of the two excavations prepared for concrete. It is anticipated that the contractor, DRM, will pour concrete today (Friday, January 31st).
Due to the frost, the larger excavation will need to be heated (it is a common practice to heat the ground around an excavation to prevent frost) throughout the weekend. DRM crews will have this prepared by Friday, replace the curb and gutter on Monday, then on Tuesday the road surface will be replaced. If this all goes as planned, 12th Street will re-open no earlier than Monday, February 10th.
