Speaker of the House Tom Lubnau issued a public letter to Chairman of Campbell County Republican Party Chris Smith. Lubnau had earlier raised concern about the timeline to fill Wyoming House District 52 vacancy. In the most recent e-mail Lubnau said he is convinced that both Smith and him want the same thing, and he apologized for any misunderstanding or consternation his e-mail caused. The full letter is below:
Thank you for your telephone call this evening. Im sorry both our schedules made it impossible for us to speak until tonight. After the telephone call, I am convinced that you are making every effort to expedite the selection process, while conducting a fair and measured application process and I support your design of the process.
I am also convinced that we both want the same thing a highly qualified legislator who is given every opportunity to succeed this budget session at the Wyoming legislature. I can assure you that whoever is selected will receive extraordinary support from all members of the Wyoming legislature.
Thank you for your measured effort in putting this process together.
At you suggestion, I will also contact the legislative service office, and see if an educational orientation can be scheduled for the applicants, prior to the selection process, so we can insure the candidates have basic orientation prior to the session. As you might imagine, the next week is very busy for the Legislative Service Office, and so if we can schedule an orientation, it will once, and open to the entire group of applicants, and not an individual orientation for each applicant.
I apologize for any misunderstanding or consternation my e-mail caused. My motives were simply an attempt to give our new legislator every tool possible to succeed. I know, now, from our discussion, that meeting my requests are impossible, given the constraints you face. I respect the choices you have made and support them.
Speaker of the House
