S Highway 50, Gillette: Yesterday a 23 year old Gillette woman contacted the Campbell County Sheriff's Office to report that a family dog had been shot. Under-sheriff Scott Matheny said that the woman told investigators she had returned home about 2:30pm and found the dog covered in blood and apparently shot in the left front leg. She said that the dog had been outside all day but had been seen about 1:00 pm in good condition. Matheny said that the women took the animal into Gillette for treatment.
This morning Matheny noted that animal control records show the dog had a history of RAL (Running At Large) complaints. He said the family had been warned several times about the RAL complaints and was warned specifically that if the dog continued to chase livestock it might eventually be shot by someone. Matheny said as of this morning it was not confirmed that the dog had any interaction with livestock the day it was shot.
