The City of Gillette's Engineering & Development Services and Utilities Department announced road construction updates to various construction projects, including the Burma Avenue railroad crossing closure, Potter Avenue railroad crossing closure, temporary Gurley Avenue Overpass closure, and temporary water shut-off.
Burma Avenue Railroad Crossing closure
The City of Gillette anticipates the Burma Avenue Railroad Crossing will be re-opened on Tuesday, May 28th. BNSF requested the crossing be closed to repair its train tracks at the location.
Potter Avenue Railroad Crossing closure
The Potter Avenue Railroad Crossing will be closed on Tuesday, May 28th to remove and replace asphalt paving next to the railroad tracks to provide smooth access across this railroad crossing.
*BNSF experienced a derailment across the Potter Avenue Railroad Crossing in April of this year, caused by a broken wheel on one of their coal cars. BNSF then repaired the crossing except for asphalt replacement on April 16, 2013. Since the Asphalt plants were not open at the time, and the City of Gillette wanted a permanent repair, the final removal of asphalt and re-grading was put off until the asphalt plants were back open.
Temporary closure Gurley Avenue Overpass
The Gurley Avenue Overpass will be closed temporarily on Thursday, June 6th and Friday, June 7th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. This work will be for maintenance work to the overpass. Public Information Officer, Joe Lunne, said, "Three years ago the City had to close the Gurley Overpass for about 30 days to perform very necessary repairs to the overpass. By evaluating the structure and performing preventative maintenance on a routine basis it is our goal to avoid having to close the overpass for a substantial length of time in the future." The timing of the closures was to allow commuters use of the overpass in the morning and evening.
Temporary Water Shut-Off on select Prairieview Drive and Circle Drive addressess
Water Service will temporarily be shut-off at 425, 426, 428, 434, 439 Prairieview Drive and 426 Circle Drive on Friday, May 24th from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. This temporary water shut-off is to allow crews to connect a new waterline in Prairieview Drive to the existing waterline in Morningside Drive and is part of the 2011 Water Main Replacement Project.
