Tasers, firearms, and a few K-9's, its not your typical learning environment. The Citizens Police Academy provided by the Gillette Police Department will be back in session soon. Information on self defense, gang activity in Wyoming, and media relations are just a few of the many topics gone over during the twelve week course. Public Information Officer for the City of Gillette Joe Lunne, says the GPD has offered the academy since 2006.
“This year the fall Citizens Police Academy will start on September 18th at 6 pm, its a great opportunity to learn about the police department and what they do. They cover every aspect of what the department does.” - Lunne
The class is held of Tuesday evening with the start time on six pm, with the exception of a Saturday of firearms instruction which includes time at the shooting range. The classes include dinner and are free and open to the public. So if you'd like an experience in police training, or participate in a police ride along, or just receive information to sort out the hearsay from the facts when it comes to local laws, you're welcome to sign up.
