Westover Road between Metz Drive and Burma Avenue (east side of Highway 50) closure

cityWestover Road between Metz Drive and Burma Avenue will be closed beginning Monday, January 7th for work related to the Madison Pipeline project.  The contractor will be excavating a large rock that is in the path of the new Madison Pipeline, and the closure will be in effect until the rock is removed and this section of pipeline is installed.  Traffic Control {PDF]

Westover Road Closed from Highway 50 west to White's Frontier Motors

cityThe City of Gillette announces the closure of Westover Road, west from Highway 50 to approximately White's Frontier Motors due to a water main break. No through-traffic will be allowed on this section of Westover Road until crews have assessed the damage and determined the road is safe for travel. Drivers are asked to use Moonshiner Lane to access the Westover Subdivision until Westover Road re-opens. Highway 50 is open for traffic, and the City of Gillette's Streets Division has sanded the intersection to improve traction. Montana Man Accused of Twin Spruce Threats

GPD-Patch-FixedAuthorities have arrested a 19-year-old Lolo, Montana man for making threats against Twin Spruce Junior High School in Gillette. Gillette Police Lieutenant Brent Wasson told local media on December 27th the investigation began on the evening of December 20th, after a 16 year old male reported activity on Facebook that had him concerned.

 

"It was in a thread between between that 19 year old man and his 14 year old male cousin in Gillette."---Wasson

 

Wasson said the suspect had posted comments threatening to "shoot up" Twin Spruce Junior High where his cousin attends school.  Wasson said that the Missoula County Sheriff's Office was contacted for assistance in the investigation.  After interviewing the 19 year old suspect, Missoula authorities decided to pursue charges related to the investigation.  Wengren was arrested Friday and charged with disorderly conduct.  The misdemeanor is punishable by 10 days in jail and/or a $100 fine.

 

Gwen Florio of the Missoulian reports that an affidavit says Wengren admitted making the threats but told authorities he was only joking.  Wengren's mother reportedly also told authorities there are no guns in their home and that neither she nor her son owns a gun.

Update on Thurs Shooting: Dec 21st 10:00 AM

ccso2This morning Under-Sheriff Scott Matheny provided an update on the investigation into a shooting that was reported December 20th, outside of Gillette. Matheny said early this morning that the Campbell County Sheriff's Office did not have any significant updates on the investigation at that time.  Matheny reiterated that his office believes that there is no need for the public to fear for their safety because of Thurday's incident.  He added the investigation was still active Friday morning and he will provided any updates to the media once they are available for release. No Threat to Schools After Report of Shooting

ccsdDecember 20, 2012--Campbell County School District administration was notified after the start of school today (Thursday) by law enforcement officials regarding an apparent shooting on Fairview Road.  The incident was not school related. However, both Rozet Elementary and Conestoga Elementary instituted shelter-in-place procedures as a precaution due to the proximity of the event to those schools.  Law enforcement advised that the shelter-in-place procedures were no longer necessary as of 11:30 a.m Thursday, December 20th. Honor of Newtown Victims Planned

    adGillette--Walker Funeral Home and Gillette Memorial are inviting the Northeast Wyoming Community to stop by either location on December 20th and 21st to honor the victims of last week's tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut.  A condolence book for families impacted will be available at both locations to sign.  Children are also encouraged to color pictures expressing their support and bring them in.  All items and donations will be sent to Newtown where a memorial has been established.

 

Also Gov. Matt Mead is calling on Wyoming citizens to observe a moment of silence and remembrance Friday to honor the victims of last weeks' shooting rampage at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Read more: Honor of Newtown Victims Planned
