Anglers in northeast Wyoming have an opportunity to catch some large rainbow trout this spring. Story Fish Hatchery personnel are in the process of distributing more than 1,100 Eagle Lake rainbow trout averaging greater than 18 inches. Some of these fish have already been distributed into Gillette Fishing Lake in Gillette, Panther Pond in Wright, High Country Park Pond near Gillette, and Mavrakis Pond in Sheridan.
The trout are brood culls used in the springtime rainbow trout spawning operation at the hatchery where over 3 million eggs were collected this spring. Eggs from these fish will be transferred to three different instate hatcheries and sent to Utah and Kentucky for use in trade for warm water species such as walleye, tiger muskie, and catfish.
