A report from the the Wyoming Highway Patrol says a the SUV ran a stop sign and was struck by a tractor-trailer truck, killing a woman and her two young children. The Patrol says the crash occurred Tuesday evening on U.S. 20, just west of Manderson in Big Horn County.
The patrol says 29-year-old Kendra Pebbles and her 3-year-old son, Hunter Heitzman, and 2-year-old daughter, Katlynn Heitzman, died. All three were from Manderson and all were wearing seat belts or in child safety seats.
Daniel Zabriskie 34 of Utah was driving his tractor trailer combination southbound on US 20. Pebbles was traveling northbound on WYO 433 and was approaching the 'T' intersection with US 20 where all traffic on WYO 433 is required to stop at the STOP sign. Pebbles failed to slow and stop as required and attempted to make a left turn onto northbound US 20. Her vehicle travelled into the path of Zabriskie's tractor trailer combination whereupon her vehicle was struck in the driver's side door. After impact, Pebbles vehicle rolled 1/4 time and both vehicles traveled across the northbound lanes coming to rest on the shoulder.
Troopers investigating this fatal crash list excessive speed and failed to observe the stop sign as contributing factors.
