Buffalo Man Charged with Second Degree Murder

A Buffalo man, Richard Wilkerson, 30, is charged with 2nd degree murder, and his first hearing took place Monday afternoon. Court documents indicate Magistrate Paul Jarvis of 4th Circuit Court read the charges against Wilkerson and was asked by Prosecuting County Attorney Ken DeCock to set a $100,000 cash-only bond. Wilkerson is accused of murdering 45 year-old Brian Newman of Buffalo Saturday morning at the Century Club in downtown Buffalo.

Wilkerson's attorney asked for $25,000 bond, claiming self defense. Jarvis set bond at $100,000. Wilkerson is ordered to not consume alcohol, leave the state, and must have contact with his counsel weekly.

Wilkerson's next hearing is set for next month.
