Wyoming State Senator John Schiffer will be on Community Speaks later this week, on 1450 AM KBBS, but we caught up with him before hand to discuss his candidacy in this year's election. Schiffer is representing District 22, which encompasses all of Johnson County, and the eastern portion of Sheridan County. In Sheridan County, Schiffer represents the Clearmont/Arvada area, with a portion of Sheridan proper. He has been the senator for the district for 19 years now.
As far as the budget, Schiffer says a few years ago 10% was cut out of the state budget. With those cuts, the cities and county appropriations were spared. Looking forward, Schiffer discussed an upcoming 8% cut. He says he will make an effort to keep the appropriations to the local governments the same. Falling gas prices have a substantial impact on the state's economy.
Schiffer has seen Wyoming go through the boom and bust cycle during his tenure.
