A one-vehicle accident early Sunday morning in Johnson County killed a 23-year-old Kaycee man and hospialized another man. David Niffenegger (23) died at the scene and 26-year-old Michael Mondeau was transported to Johnson County Memorial Hospital in Buffalo.
Wyoming Highway Patrol Sergeant Stephen Townsend detailed in a report that evidence indicates the vehicle was northbound on WYO 196 at a high rate of speed. The driver failed to negotiate a left hand curve in the roadway at which time the vehicle left the roadway. The vehicle then rolled numerous times before coming to rest in the right-of-way for Interstate 25. Niffenegger was totally ejected from the cab of the pickup during the rollover and Mondeau was partially ejected. Neither individual was wearing a seat belt.
At this time it is unknown which of the two victims was the driver of the vehicle. The crash remains under investigation as Troopers attempt to determine if alcohol in addition to the excessive speed are contributing factors in this crash.
The crash happeded 7.3 miles north of Kaycee in Johnson County. The time of the crash was 12:30 am on July 28th.
