After a successful debut last year for Wyoming’s first childhood cancer camp, families affected by pediatric cancer are invited to attend this year’s gathering. “Camp Courage Wyoming 2013” is planned for August 16-18.

Governor: Wyoming Approaches Coal Mining Milestone

CHEYENNE, Wyo. – Governor Matt Mead announced today that Wyoming will mine its ten billionth ton of coal in May. “This is a significant achievement for our state and country. Coal mining has provided thousands of jobs in Wyoming over the last 150 years, all the while fueling America’s economy,” Governor Mead said. “Coal has helped make America great because it is an affordable and reliable source of energy. It keeps the lights on in our homes and powers America’s industries.”

Historic Bar Going Smoke Free Wednesday

A longtime establishment in Sheridan, dating back to 1907, will be making history once again Wednesday as it goes smoke free permanently. The Mint Bar has previously weathered prohibition, but was also known to be a speakeasy for the folks who felt the government made a bad decision during the early 1900s. Now 106 years old, the decision was made to make it smoke free. Tammy Shreeve, a bartender at the Mint said the decision has been considered for years and she's hopeful it will attract additional people.
Shreeve says the one thing that sets the Mint apart the most from other bars in town is its age. The bar has always been located where it currently stands, and the only thing that has changed are its owners, she says. The amount of history on the walls also stands apart. It will be interesting to see what happens with the Mint as it makes this transition. One could argue on both sides of the subject, but we'll just have to see the outcome. Meanwhile, Shreeve says they will be encouraging folks to smoke outside.
