State Capitol – The Wyoming Secretary of State Max Maxfield is issuing an urgent consumer warning. The Secretary of State’s office is being misrepresented in automated telephone solicitations across the state. Wyomingites are receiving telephone solicitations which lead people to believe the Secretary of State has released information which shows they may be eligible for changes to their auto insurance. “This is completely false! My office does not have any such information about consumers. We certainly do not endorse any particular type of auto insurance.” Maxfield said. Wheatland – Interstate 25 is now open both directions at the location of this
mornings tanker crash north of Wheatland. The tractor trailer
combination was northbound at the time of the crash, not southbound as
first reported. Also an updated amount of the spillage is estimated at
only 800 gallons. He was transporting 210 barrels of crude oil. The
driver, Torin Williams, age 55 from Johnstown, CO was not injured and
told Troopers he swerved to avoid a deer in the roadway. No citations
Troopers are investigating a tractor trailer tanker crash this morning approximately 2 miles north of Wheatland. The crash, which occurred shortly after 3:00 a.m., has resulted in the closure of both north and southbound lanes of Interstate 25 due to the spill of the tankers cargo, crude oil.
Troopers on scene estimate a good portion of the tankers 200 barrels of crude oil have spilled when the tanker trailer was breached during the crash. Traffic is being diverted onto WYO 320 at Wheatland for northbound traffic and at the US 26 Junction for southbound traffic. Motorists traveling that portion of the Interstate can expect delays due to the re-routing of traffic.
No injuries have been reported as a result of the crash and no details are available at this time as to why the southbound tractor trailer combination became involved in the crash.
The Interstate closure may last several more hours as Troopers work closely with the Wyoming Department of Transportation, Wheatland Fire Department, Platte County Sheriff’s Department, Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality and the Wyoming Office of Homeland Security during the crash investigation and cleanup process. At this time there is no estimate as to when the roadway may be re-opened to normal traffic.
Extra Troopers have been dispatched to the area to assist with traffic control and to assist in the crash investigation. The tractor trailer combination is owned by Basin Western Incorporated out of Roosevelt, Utah.Last Updated on Tuesday, 25 September 2012 13:43
