The Gillette Camel football team finished its regular season at 9-0, Friday, with a 41-6 win over Cheyenne East, and is conference champion and the top seed in the Class 4A playoffs.
The Camels will host eighth-seeded Evanston, this Friday, in the opening round of the postseason. The Thunderbirds fall to the number-three seed, and will host Cheyenne Central, Friday. Sheridan claims the number two seed, and will be home, Friday, against Laramie.
The winner of the Gillette-Evanston game will face the winner of Friday’s game between fourth-seeded Natrona County and fifth-seeded Kelly Walsh.
The Camel win over Cheyenne East was highlighted by three rushing touchdowns from senior quarterback Austin Fort, who gained 136 yards on twelve carries.
Gillette fell behind 6-0, a little over halfway through the first quarter, and led 13-6 at halftime before outscoring the Thunderbirds, 28-0, in the second half.
