The Gillette Camel Boys' basketball team improved to 7-1, Thursday night, with a 75-66 over Douglas County, from Castle Rock, CO, in the opening round of the Energy Classic at Campbell County High School.
Cody Kelley led the Camels with 24 points, including eight in the fourth quarter when he made eight of his nine attempts from the free-throw line. Tanner Rogen scored 17 points for Gillette; Garrett Schempp was the third Camel in double figures with 12.
Gillette advances to play Mountain View, from Orem, UT, in the second round. The Bruins are also 7-1, after they beat Bismarck, 68-46, Thursday afternoon.
The second-round boys' game will follow the second-round game featuring the Gillette girls who knocked off Mandan, 61-36, in Thursday night's opening round.
Jessie Geer led the Lady Camels with 14 points, Shelby Johnson chipped in ten.
The Lady Camels are now 6-2, and will face Roosevelt High School, from Sioux Falls, SD, Friday night. The Lady Roughriders are 3-1, after they edged Chadron, 62-60, in Thursday's opening round.
