GILLETTE, Wyo.--It was an ugly start for the Lady Camels (8-4). However, they ended on top of the Rapid City Central Lady Cobblers (4-7), 63-57, in overtime, at the North Campus Friday night.
The Lady Cobblers started out strong with a 6-0 run. Gillette got its first lead at 9-8 and held it until 21-19, in favor of the Lady Cobblers. The Lady Camels had a 24-23 lead at halftime after Taylor Deaton sank a straight-away three with seconds remaining in the half.
In the second stanza, Gillette scored first, but there were numerous lead changes and a few ties in the second half.
With Gillette up 51-48 and seconds left in the fourth quarter, Grace Weeks for the Lady Cobblers banked a shot from the right block for two points to make it 51-50. She was fouled by Shelby Johnson in the process with a second remaining in the game. Weeks made the free throw to tie it at 51 points. A three-quarter court shot as time expired was short and sent the game into overtime.
In overtime, Julia Seamans made some late free throws, Jessie Geer contributed with five points and Taylor Deaton sank a three-pointer to give the Lady Camels the 63-57 win.
Seamans, who averaged 10.5 points-per-game coming into the contest, led Gillette and all players with 26 points.
